During my bachelor's minor at St. Joost School of Art and Design (Sep 2022 - Jan 2023), I came up with two pitches for animated tv shows with a team of fellow students.

"The Great Witch Hazel" follows a young witch, Hazel, who struggles with controlling her magic and as a result accidentally turns her mother in to a rabbit. They go on an adventure in order to find out how to revert this transformation. I worked as a background artist and (environmental) color/light designer. I also came up with various background character designs.

"Wild Frontiers: Omia" follows Thebit, a xenobiologist, who explores the planet Omia and describes the wildlife he encounters. I worked as the art director, background artist and color/light designer.

The Great Witch Hazel

I started off this project by exploring the moods and colours this magical world might have.

Final rendered pieces for the pitch bible were made in collaboration with Loek (@Sprookjesloek on instagram) (except for the last one) ; he provided the lineart/composition and character drawings, and i did the colouring, lighting and rendering in a painterly storybook style.

Wild Frontiers: Omia

I started off by figuring out the main colour palette of this world; what is the colour of the sky, the vegetation, etc? To this end I made several small thumbnail compositions.

Preliminary sketches of some ecosystems, exploring in more detail the shapes and colours one would find here, implementing photobashing here and there.

Finally I made some spreads for the pitch bible. I first made preliminary sketches to pin down values. The final paintings were rendered in a sleek, textureless style. The last spread features creatures painted in by Lyle (@spooky_lyle on instagram).

"The Four Seasons as Trans Men" is as series of paintings made from spring 2024 - summer 2025, personifying the seasons as trans men. It is a celebration of transmasculine bodies as natural, blossoming, ever changing, diverse, etc. :-)

I enjoy going painting landscapes outside using gouache. I also occasionally paint using acrylics and watercolors.
